Where to Stay in Bhubaneswar & Puri

The capital for the temples and caves, the coast for Jagannath and Konark. Here is where to sleep.

Most visitors split their stay between two bases. Bhubaneswar is the practical choice for the Old Town temples, the caves, Dhauli and the museum, with the widest range of hotels and the airport on the doorstep. Puri, 60 km away on the coast, is the place to be for the Jagannath Temple, the beach, Konark along the Marine Drive and Chilika Lake.

We do not print nightly rates: hotel prices in Odisha change dramatically with the season, weekends and festivals — especially around Rath Yatra and the December holidays. Every card links out to Trip.com for live availability.

How to choose

  • Two or three nights, temples first? Stay in Bhubaneswar and do Konark and Puri as day trips.
  • Four nights or more? Two in Bhubaneswar, two in Puri — it saves hours of driving.
  • Want a holiday feel? A resort on the Marine Drive between Puri and Konark gives you the sea without Puri’s crowds.
  • Coming for Rath Yatra? Book Puri months ahead, or stay in Bhubaneswar and travel in early.

Booking tips

  • Prices rise sharply around Durga Puja, Diwali, the Christmas–New Year week and Rath Yatra.
  • Check whether breakfast is included — it usually is at mid-range and upscale hotels.
  • In Puri, ask whether a "sea view" room actually faces the sea or only glimpses it.
  • In summer, make sure air conditioning is included; in winter it rarely matters.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best area to stay in Bhubaneswar?

For sightseeing, anywhere with easy access to the Old Town and the airport road works well — Jaydev Vihar, Saheed Nagar and the area around the Old Town are all convenient. App cabs make every part of the city accessible.

Should I stay in Bhubaneswar or Puri?

Bhubaneswar for the temples, caves and transport connections; Puri for the Jagannath Temple, the beach, Konark and Chilika. With four or more nights, split your stay.

Are there beach resorts near Konark?

Yes — several resorts line the Marine Drive between Puri and Konark, such as Toshali Sands, giving easy access to both.

Are hotels in Bhubaneswar expensive?

Generally no. The city has good-value options at every level, from budget hotels to five-star resorts, and prices are lower than in India’s major metros.
