Painted lanterns and handicrafts on display at a stall in Ekamra Haat

Ekamra Haat

The whole state’s crafts in one market

Ekamra Haat is a government-supported handicrafts market in the newer part of Bhubaneswar where artisans and cooperatives from across Odisha sell their work directly. It is the simplest way to see — and buy — the state’s famous crafts under one roof.

Stalls rotate, but you can expect Sambalpuri, Bomkai and other handloom saris and fabrics, silver filigree (tarakasi) from Cuttack, pattachitra paintings, dhokra brass figures, stone and wood carving, and appliqué work from Pipili.

Top things to do at Ekamra Haat

Shop for handloom

Odisha’s ikat weaves — Sambalpuri above all — are the state’s pride. Buying from the weavers’ cooperatives here gives you a better guarantee of authenticity than the average shop.

Compare crafts before a village visit

If you plan to visit Raghurajpur or Pipili, a stroll here first gives you an idea of quality and price.

Look out for craft fairs

In winter the city hosts larger craft fairs, notably the Toshali National Crafts Mela, which bring artisans from across India.
